THE SABBATH AND OFFERINGS TO GOD.
. “For six days work may be done, but the seventh day shall be a holy day for you, a Sabbath of complete rest to the LORD; whoever does any kind of work on that day shall be put to death. You shall not kindle a fire in any of your dwellings on the Sabbath day.”
THE COVENANT OF THE LAW RENEWED
The covenant of the law renewed. Then the LORD said to Moses, “Cut two tablets of stone like the first, and I will write on these tablets the words that were on the first tablets which you smashed [when you learned of Israel’s idolatry].
GOD’S PRESENCE PROMISED AND HIS GLORY SHOWN
God’s presence promised and His glory shown. Now therefore, I pray you, if I have found favor in Your sight, let me know Your ways so that I may know You [becoming more deeply and intimately acquainted with You, recognizing and understanding Your ways more clearly] and that I may find grace and favor in Your sight. And consider also, that this nation is Your people.”And the LORD said, “My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest [by bringing you and the people into the promised land].”
THE ANGEL LEADER AND THE HUMAN INTERCESSOR
The angel leader and the human intercessor. I will send an Angel before you and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.
MOSES PUNISHES IDOLATERS AND PRAYS FOR THE PEOPLE
Moses punishes idolaters and prays for the people. He said to them, “Thus says the LORD God of Israel, ‘Every man strap his sword on his thigh and go back and forth from gate to gate throughout the camp, and every man kill his brother, and every man his friend, and every man his neighbor [all who continue pagan worship].'” Then the next day Moses said to the people, “You have committed a great sin. Now I will go up to the LORD; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.”
MOSES BREAKS THE TABLES AND BURNS THE GOLDEND CALF
Moses breaks the tables and burns the golden calf. And as soon as he approached the camp and he saw the calf and the dancing, Moses’ anger burned; and he threw the tablets from his hands and smashed them at the foot of the mountain.
Then Moses took the calf they had made and burned it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and scattered it on the surface of the water and made the Israelites drink it.
AARON’S GOLDEN CALF OFFENDS THE LORD
Aaron’s golden calf offends the lord. The LORD said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and behold, they are a stiff-necked (stubborn, rebellious) people. Now therefore, let Me alone and do not interfere, so that My anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them; and I will make of you (your descendants) a great nation.”
YOU SHALL KEEP THE SABBATH
You shall keep the Sabbath! Therefore, you shall keep the Sabbath, for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it must be put to death; for whoever does work on the Sabbath, that person (soul) shall be cut off from among his people [excluding him from the atonement made for them].
WISE WORKMEN FOR THE TABERNACLE
Wise workmen for the tabernacle. Now the LORD said to Moses,”See, I have called by name Bezalel, son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah.I have filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom and skill, in understanding and intelligence, in knowledge, and in all kinds of craftsmanship,to make artistic designs for work in gold, in silver, and in bronze, and in the cutting of stones for settings, and in the carving of wood, to work in all kinds of craftsmanship.
