CHASTENED BY SUFFERING

II. THE BURDENS OF THE NATIONS, Isaiah 13-27

World-Judgment and the Redemption of Judah, Isaiah 24-27

Isa 26:11-21

YOU KEEP HIM IN PERFECT PEACE

Though Your hand is lifted up [to strike], O LORD, the wicked do not see it. Let them see Your zeal for Your people and be put to shame; Indeed, let the fire reserved for Your enemies consume them.

LORD, You will establish peace for us, Since You have also performed for us all that we have done.

O LORD our God, other masters besides You have ruled over us; But through You alone we confess Your name.

The [wicked] dead will not live [again], the spirits of the dead will not rise and return; Therefore You have punished and destroyed them, And You have wiped out every memory of them [every trace of them].

You have increased the nation, O LORD; You have increased the nation, You are glorified; You have extended all the borders of the land.

O LORD, they sought You in distress; They managed only a prayerful whisper When Your discipline was upon them.

As a woman with child approaches the time to give birth, She is in pain and struggles and cries out in her labor, So we were before You, O LORD.

We have been with child, we have twisted and struggled in labor; We gave birth, as it seems, only to wind. We could not accomplish salvation for the earth, Nor were inhabitants of the world born.

Your dead will live; Their dead bodies will rise. You who lie in the dust, awake and shout for joy! For your dew is a dew of [celestial] light [heavenly, supernatural], And the earth will give birth to the spirits of the dead. [Eze_37:11-12]

Come, my people, enter your chambers And shut your doors behind you; Hide for a little while Until the [LORD’S] wrath is past.

Listen carefully, the LORD is about to come out of His [heavenly] place To punish the inhabitants of the earth for their wickedness [their sin, their injustice, their wrongdoing]; The earth will reveal the [innocent] blood shed upon her And will no longer cover her slain.

24. What is taught regarding God’s care of His people, even though they may be permitted to suffer? What verse encourages prayer for relief?

When God ordains our peace, a world in arms cannot disturb us. Our peace results from the conviction that God is going before us and preparing our works. But be careful to make mention of His name, that is, to give Him the glory.

Do not be afraid of your enemies. When God brings you back from the ends of the earth, He will free you from their toils and snares. Let us, as Isa_26:16 suggests, pour out our prayers, as a vessel its contents; though, as the Hebrew signifies, those prayers are but whispers. It is true that apart from God we work no deliverance in the earth, Isa_26:18, but when He speaks, even the dead live. Jesus, the resurrection and the life, speaks in Isa_26:19. What comfort results to those that dwell in the dust of self-abasement and despair to look up to the ever-living Christ, from whom streams of life-giving energy come to believing hearts! Arise and sing, thou broken heart: even now the stone is being rolled from the door of thy sepulcher; the morning dew is distilling upon thee. Cast out by earth, thou shalt be welcomed by heaven, and sheltered in God’s secret place till the storm-burst has spent itself.

New Covenant Israelite! "And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert grafted in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;  Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee."  Rom 11:17 -18
